Five CAN Recommended Candidates Elected to City Council

Five candidates recommended by the Hamilton Community Action Network (CAN) have been elected to Hamilton City Council in the 2006 municipal election. The recommended candidates elected were:

Mayor: Fred Eisenberger
Ward 1: Brian McHattie
Ward 2: Bob Bratina
Ward 7: Scott Duvall
Ward 9: Brad Clark

The five candidates elected represent 63% of the total CAN recommended for the 2006 municipal election. CAN's recommendations were based on an analysis that included three factors:

  • The responses to questions on the candidate survey
  • The candidate's alignment with CAN's principles of Good Government and Quality of Life
  • For incumbents, their performance on CAN's voting record analysis

“It is encouraging to see the election and, in some cases, the re-election of candidates that share CAN’s principles of Good Government and Quality of Life. Further, CAN is pleased that the issues of political integrity and responsible economic development were front and centre in the 2006 campaign.”

-CAN Chair Alice Smith.

This is the first municipal election since CAN’s formation in 2004.
